Oil Changes in Northeast Edmonton

Fresh oil is the cheapest protection your engine gets. At Just Auto on 66 Street NW, every oil change uses synthetic blend or full synthetic oil matched to what your vehicle's manufacturer specifies, with a new filter, a tire pressure check and a look under the hood while it's in the bay. Book a time online or call, and if the bay is free you can drop in.

Book an oil change

Signs you need it

  • The oil-change or maintenance light is on, or the oil-life reading is low
  • It has been longer than the time or distance your owner's manual or last service sticker gives
  • The oil on the dipstick is below the minimum mark, or dark and gritty
  • The engine sounds louder than usual, or you hear a ticking noise after a cold start
  • You smell hot or burning oil after a drive
  • Most of your driving is short trips in the cold, which many manuals treat as severe service

How it works at Just Auto

  1. Book a time online or call (780) 340-0258. If the bay is free when you arrive, you can also drop in without a booking.
  2. Tell us the vehicle's year, make and model, and any warning lights or noises you have noticed.
  3. We drain the old oil and fit a new filter.
  4. We fill the engine with synthetic blend or full synthetic oil in the grade your manufacturer calls for.
  5. We check and set your tire pressures.
  6. We take a visual look under the hood for leaks, worn belts and hoses, and loose battery terminals, and tell you what we saw.
  7. We reset the oil-life or maintenance reminder on your dash, so it counts down from today.

Which oil goes in

Modern engines are built around a specific oil grade, such as 0W-20 or 5W-30, and many also name a standard the oil must meet. That information is in your owner's manual and often on the oil filler cap. We follow it, rather than putting the same oil in every vehicle.

We offer two kinds of oil:

  • Synthetic blend mixes synthetic and conventional base oils. It suits many older and higher-mileage engines whose manufacturers do not call for full synthetic.
  • Full synthetic is what many newer engines require, including most small turbocharged engines. It also flows more easily on a cold start than conventional oil, which matters in an Edmonton January.

If you are not sure which your vehicle needs, tell us the year, make and model and we will check the specification before we start.

Oil changes and an Edmonton winter

Cold weather is hard on oil. On a −25 °C morning the engine turns over with thick oil, and on a short trip to work it may never get fully warm. That lets moisture and fuel collect in the oil instead of burning off. Many owner's manuals list frequent short trips, extreme cold and idling as severe service, with a shorter interval between changes. If that describes your driving, go by the severe-service schedule rather than the longest interval on the sticker.

A block heater helps the oil on cold starts too, but it does not replace a change when one is due. Heading into winter with fresh oil and the right grade is one of the simplest things you can do for a used vehicle.

While it's in the bay

An oil change is a good moment to catch small problems early. Our visual check under the hood looks for oil or coolant leaks, cracked or glazed belts, soft or bulging hoses, and corrosion on the battery terminals. Setting the tire pressures properly also helps your tires wear evenly and your fuel economy, especially as the temperature drops and pressures fall with it.

If we see something that needs attention, we tell you what we found and what can wait. For anything beyond the oil change, our service page covers brakes, suspension, diagnostics, batteries and seasonal tire changeovers. Our first snow checklist goes through the rest of a winter check.

Questions

How often should I change my oil?

Follow your owner's manual or your vehicle's oil-life monitor. Modern engines on synthetic oil often go further between changes than the old 5,000 km rule. Frequent short trips, extreme cold and towing count as severe service in many manuals, and call for a shorter interval.

Synthetic blend or full synthetic?

Use what your manufacturer specifies. If the manual calls for full synthetic, that is what goes in. If it allows either, full synthetic generally flows better on cold starts and holds up longer between changes, and a synthetic blend costs less.

Do I need an appointment?

Booking a time online or by phone is the surest way to be seen when you want. If the bay is free when you arrive, we can do it without a booking.

Will you reset the oil-change light?

Yes. We reset the oil-life or maintenance reminder after every oil change, so it counts down from that day.

What does it cost?

It depends on how much oil your engine takes and whether it needs synthetic blend or full synthetic. Call or book with your vehicle's year, make and model, and we will tell you before we start.
